We today sadly learned that long time Sports Sedan racer Bob Gill passed away last night. He was 80 years of age. Bob was one of Motor Racings great characters, variously known as Gilly, Spinner and self-proclaimed “Prahran’s Fastest Plumber”. Bob was a life member of the Australian Sports Sedan Association Victoria, and a friend and strong supporter of PIARC and motorsport in general. He raced for over 50 years in many cars, starting with an Elfin Aero, then Sports Sedans including an Anglia, the ex Geoghegan Mustang, the ex Chocolates Robertson Capri V8, the ex Gowans Celica V8 and several BF Falcons. A long-time member of the CAMS Victorian Motor Race Panel with significant time conducting Licence evaluations and encouraging young Drivers he was a great contributor. Gilly also had his stints playing footy for Richmond briefly and Prahran for a number of years. His activities within Prahran were extensive, serving on Prahran Council for 8 years from 1983 to 1994 with 1993-1994 as Mayor, in fact the last Mayor of Prahran. A life lived to the fullest in all respects, with never a good story spoiled by adhering to the truth when some enrichment would make it better, Gilly you really were one of life’s great characters who will be sadly missed spins and all. Condolences to his partner Rebecca, Bob’s son Brad, family and many friends. Bob’s Funeral is to be held at Springvale Crematorium on Wednesday 1st May at 2:30pm at Boyd Chapel.
